OHE is very pleased to announce that Professor Mireia Jofre-Bonet will be joining OHE in April as Vice-President and Head of Research, replacing Professor Nancy Devlin who will be taking up the role of Director of the Centre of Health Policy at the University of Melbourne later this month after 10 years at OHE.

OHE is very pleased to announce that Professor Mireia Jofre-Bonet will be joining OHE in April as Vice-President and Head of Research, replacing Professor Nancy Devlin who will be taking up the role of Director of the Centre of Health Policy at the University of Melbourne later this month after 10 years at OHE.

Mireia currently Professor of Economics as well as Deputy Head of the Department of Economics at City, University of London, and has been Director of the MSc in Health Economics and the MSc in Economic Evaluation in Healthcare for the last decade. She is a Senior Associated Researcher at LSE Health Policy (London School of Economics and Political Sciences), collaborates with the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, belongs to the London International Development Centre, and is an Expert Advisor for the NICE Centre for Guidelines and the ESRC Peer Review College and a member of the Royal Economic Society.

Prior to joining City, Professor Jofre-Bonet was a Lecturer at LSHTM, a Research Faculty member at the School of Public Health at Yale University, and taught at the Departments of Economics at the London School of Economics and at Yale University.

She has been a Core Member of NICE Public Health Committee and has contributed to health economics projects and reviews public institutions – including the UK Department of Health, the NIHR Health Technology Assessment programme, the Sierra Leone National Social Insurance Trust and the Catalan and the Balearic Island’s Departments of Health.

Her fields of interest include: health production functions and lifestyle decisions; adaptation to health states; the impact of substance abuse and mental health on productivity; economic evaluation applied to substance abuse and to eye disease; topics of industrial organisation applied to the demand for health care and topics of industrial organisation and research policy.

Announcing the appointment, OHE Chief Executive Professor Graham Cookson said “Mireia is a highly accomplished economist with a high profile within European health economics. She has a broad range of research interests that will help cement OHE’s position as a world leading health economics research organisation. Mireia will be an excellent leader for OHE’s globally recognised research programme.”

On her appointment, Professor Mireia Jofre-Bonet said, “I am delighted to be joining OHE’s remarkably active and productive, internationally acclaimed team. I am very much looking forward to getting involved, building off existing synergies and creating new ones.”.
