OHE Expert Profile

Helen Hayes

Associate Principal Economist

Helen is an economist with particular expertise in applied econometrics using quantitative data and healthcare policy evaluation. Her research experience covers a broad range of topics across both demand and supply side factors of health: payment systems, waiting times, healthcare utilisation, the working lives of GPs, and links between labour market outcomes and health.

Her recent research interests have focused on financial incentives in NHS hospital payment systems for diagnostic imaging services, and the effect of waiting times on GP demand for specialist hospital services. She explored these topics as part of her recently submitted PhD thesis, which examined economic issues in the delivery and organisation of services for early detection of cancer.
