Sian Hodgson
Sian is an economist by training. She is passionate about the role of incentives in healthcare systems and generating evidence to support a shift to proactive healthcare. Her recent research has focused on demonstrating the broader value of vaccines and exploring innovative funding mechanisms for preventative healthcare.
Sian’s experience spans a variety of topics and includes both quantitative and qualitative methodologies. This includes research on the development of hearing-related EQ-5D bolt-on items, the return on investment of dementia, inequalities in dementia, and the sustainability and resilience of healthcare systems. She has also conducted research on facilitating market access for novel technologies through the assessment of HTA methodologies and/or establishing appropriate payment mechanisms – particularly for innovative technologies such as gene therapies.
Sian joined OHE in 2021 after completing her MSc in Health Economics at the University of York, where her dissertation examined the relationship between distance and emergency department demand. She also holds a BSc in Economics from Newcastle University, which included a placement year as a Research Assistant at the Bank of England.
