For Schools

For over a decade, the OHE website has included a popular interactive e-source The Economics of Health Care, focusing on the UK. Aimed at post-16 students of economic courses, it also is of interest to anyone wishing to understand the basic principles of health care economics and the operation of the NHS.

OHE will be revising this valuable resource and expects to launch a new version later in 2012. In the interim, we are making available the 2007 version of The Economics of Health Care and the teacher’s notes. Although the details of how the NHS is organised have changed, the basic concepts of health economics and the types of issues the NHS faces have not.

How to Find Information about Recent Changes in the NHS

The Government that was elected in 2010 has introduced new plans for the NHS. The White Paper that sets out the details, Equity and Excellence: Liberating the NHS, is available on the website of the Department of Health. Additional resources also are available there.
