Director - Professor Adrian Towse
Adrian has 20 years’ experience in the economics of the health and pharmaceutical industries. He joined the OHE in 1993. His research interests include the economic and public policy impact of competition and regulation in the pharmaceutical industry, plus the use of risk-sharing arrangements alongside health economic evaluations.
Prior to joining the OHE, he spent nine years with Touche Ross Management Consultants (now Deloitte and Touche), dividing his time between the Health and Pharmaceutical Group and the Economics Group, which specialised in the economic analysis of regulated industries. Here he advised the Department of Health on the market for generic medicines, the ABPI on the economics of patent life, the National Audit Office on the Pharmaceutical Price Regulation Scheme and the European Commission on the proposed European Medicines Evaluation Agency.
He holds visiting research fellowships at the University of York , Brunel University and the Institute of Health Sciences at the University of Oxford, and is on the editorial boards of the Journal of Medical Economics and of Applied Economics. He was until recently a Board member of the International Society for Pharmacoeconomic and Outcomes Research and has been a non-executive Director of the Oxford Radcliffe NHS Trust, one of the UK’s largest NHS teaching hospitals, since November 1999.
Adrian Towse has an MA (Hons) in Politics, Philosophy and Economics, Keble College, Oxford, an MPhil in Management Studies, from Nuffield College, Oxford and the Oxford Centre for Management Studies, and is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants.
