Head of Statistics - Emma Hawe MSc BSc
Emma Hawe joined the OHE in August 2006. Prior to joining OHE, she worked as a Statistician for the Healthcare Commission for two years, where her responsibilities included the analysis of large, national, complex datasets, including Hospital Episode Statistics and data from the National Patient Survey Programme. In addition, she provided advice on statistical methodology internally and to a range of external organisations including the Department of Health and the National Patient Safety Agency. Her research interests include statistical methods for the assimilation and analysis of health-related data.
For 5 years before joining the Healthcare Commission, she also worked as a Statistician for a research department at University College London, investigating the genetic causes of Cardiovascular disease. She has published numerous papers in medical/statistical journals, including an investigation into trends in live births and infant mortality.
Emma has an MSc in Applied Statistics from Corpus Christi College, Oxford and a first degree in Statistics from University College London. She is an honorary research fellow at the Department of Medicine, University College London.
